Mayshkootoona means trade or trader in Southern Michif, as translated by Elder Norman Fleury of St. Lazare, MB. The story of the Métis is entwined with the history of the fur trade, both as the origin and livelihood. Distinct Métis communities developed along fur trade routes becoming centers for culture and commerce. The Métis Trading Post's mission is to celebrate and share the rich culture and talents of Métis people that thrives today through art and high-quality products.
